Address to the Haggis

We enjoyed the St. Andrew's Society of the Middle South Spring party tonight. Morgan Murphy gave the address to the haggis.
Gie her a haggis!!!
When Gilbert was president of the society in 2005, he made the haggis for the event!
Robert Burns' Address to the Haggis
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.
The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o' need,
While thro' your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.
His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!
Then, horn for horn,
they stretch an' strive:
Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve,
Are bent lyke drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
"Bethankit!" 'hums.
Is there that owre his French ragout
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi' perfect sconner,
Looks down wi' sneering, scornfu' view
On sic a dinner?
Poor devil! see him ower his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro' bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!
But mark the Rustic, haggis fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' heads will sned,
Like taps o' thrissle.
Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!

House and Garden

The house is repainted, Chatham Fog with white trim.
I have a pot of purple salvia at the back door.

And I've planted my garden. Look at the mint in the bottom right quad that sprang up from last year. I have planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, squash, and my herbs are cilantro, oregano, parsley, chives, basil and mint.

Taxed Enough Already Party in Trussville

Frances Wideman, Kathleen Duquette, Fay Shirley, Cindy Douglas, Pam Spivey and Carolyn Reich represented Republican Women of the South at the TEA Party. James Jr. knows that the real tax burden is the level of government spending, which is already spiraling out of control.
Pam Spivey helped a brand new citizen register to vote. He will vote for the first time in the June primary.
Sarah Palin said, "You betcha," she is supporting JOE!!! Joe Knight is running for Jefferson County Commissioner District 4.
District Attorney Brandon Falls and Jeff Co Republican Chairman Gilbert Douglas listen to the citizens.

Bye Bye Blue House...

Ever since we moved into our passive solar, board and batten, clear-story-window house in 1984, it has been painted blue....sort of a Williamsburg bluish-gray. Now we are painting the house a different color! The official Behr solid wood stain is called Chatham Fog...it looks a little like putty color to me. I'm told it's more "stylish" to go with these earth tones. Here's a preliminary photo..it's not finished yet; you can still see blue around the windows...I think we'll trim the windows in white and maybe change the shade on the door....what do you think? I miss my blue, but I like the fog! It's time for a change! I'll post an updated photo when we're finished.
